After 3 1/2 years living in Sanctuary, Alex Garcia walked free!
After more than three years of living in Christ Church in order to avoid immediate deportation, Alex Garcia returned home in February of 2021 without fear of being separated from his family and friends. And though it was a time of great rejoicing, there is still much work to be done in order to secure a permanent solution for Alex as he pursues full citizenship.
A Sanctuary Congregation
We join with other congregations and community organizations in the St Louis region and around the country to create safe space for those families who are threatened by outdated and ineffectual immigration policies. The bottom line is this: The separation of families is immoral, cruel, and unjust. We are called by the gospel to love our neighbor and to stand with those suffering and oppressed in the midst of the current immigration crisis.
“The foreigner who resides among you will be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself.” -Leviticus 19:34
