Revised and revamped, we are bringing the new and improved 2.0 version of the thoughtful DVD
introduction to progressive Christian theology back beginning in April. At this time, we've gotten the
strongest interest and response for a 6 pm Tuesday timeslot for seven straight weeks. We'll have potluck
dinners, for 7 weeks from April 22 - June 10, covering the section titled "Invitation to Journey."
Friday, May 16, it's Pizza & a Movie Night at Christ Church! Bring your favorite movie snacks and beverage,
and a few bucks to put toward pizza, and come out to view "For the Bible Tells Me So." We'll gather at 6:30 and
call in our pizza order, with plans to start the movie at 7 pm. If you can't be there until 7, and want to be sure
there's enough pizza, call in your RSVP. Here's a film synopsis: The place of gay and lesbian congregation and
clergy within various Christian denominations has become an increasingly controversial issue in recent decades, and
many conservative Christian leaders have justified church polices which limit the participation of homosexuals in
the church (as well as support of legislation against gay marriage or civil rights for gays) by citing certain
passages of the Bible. But what do these passages mean? How accurate is their translation from the original
texts? And have they been used outside of proper context to justify a political agenda that runs counter to
Christian ideals of acceptance and forgiveness? "For The Bible Tells Me So" is a documentary which looks at
the ongoing battle of gays and lesbians to celebrate their faith without denying their sexual preferences. The film
includes interviews with conservative Christian families as well as V. Gene Robinson, who became the first officially
ordained Anglican bishop; political activist and spiritual leader Bishop Desmond Tutu; and Chrissy Gephardt, the
openly lesbian daughter of Congressman Dick Gephardt.
Whoever you are, wherever you are on life's journey,
we welcome you to Christ Church,
an Open and Affirming congregation of the UCC!
